FIVE key witnesses will be summoned in the trial of a man who allegedly murdered a hotel guest, following orders by the High Criminal Court.

The Bangladeshi allegedly killed his 68-year-old Kuwaiti victim while robbing him in his room at a Manama hotel in March.

Prosecutors claim he entered the room, hit his victim in the head with a bottle as he slept and then suffocated him with a pillow.

Defence lawyer Abdulla Al Sakran yesterday requested judges to summon the five key witnesses for cross- examination.

He also requested his client’s release from police custody pending the trial but prosecutors objected arguing that (the defendant) was an expat.

Judges adjourned the case to September 15 to summon the witnesses.

The Bangladeshi allegedly stole the man’s money, two mobile phones and put on one of his shirts because his own was torn and covered in blood before fleeing to his home. He was arrested after police traced one of the mobile phones to a shop which had allegedly bought it from the defendant.
