ONLY two Bahrainis are remaining in custody in Saudi Arabia, officials told the GDN.
They are Al Qaeda suspects Khalil Al Janahi and Abdulraheem Al Murbati. The two were never convicted or officially charged.
Al Adala (Justice) National Movement Society lawyer Abdulla Hashim does not believe there are any other prisoners whose cases remain unknown and is hopeful the last two will be released soon.
He was speaking after Saudi Arabia promised His Majesty King Hamad officials would study all detainees’ cases, after he personally requested the release of all prisoners.
Eight Bahraini teachers, who were held in Riyadh for more than four months, were finally released on Saturday, after the King appealed to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Mr Hashim said the cases of the remaining Bahraini prisoners in Saudi were of urgent importance, given their length of time in custody without charge.
Father-of-six Abdulraheem, the brother of former Guantanamo Bay detainee Isa, has been held in Saudi for four-and-a-half years without charge, while Mr Al Janahi was arrested in April.
Mr Al Murbati’s family have not seen him for three weeks after he was transferred to another jail in the south-western province of Assir without their knowledge.
His children include Osama, 20, Abdulla, 16, and Zobair, nine, Asma, 23, Maria, 13, and Aiysha, 12.
