BCHR Announcement: Bahrain Centre for Human Rights joins the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH)

At the 36th Congress of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) held in Lisbon, Portugal last week the Bahrain Centre for Human
Rights joined more than 141 human rights group accross the world as members of the FIDH network.
Established over 85 years ago and with member groups in over 100 countries, FIDH acts as a consultative body for the UN, UNESCO, the Council of Europe and holds the position of observer before the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights.

FIDH works towards:
1. Protecting Human Rights, assisting victims: through actions including advocacy, litigation, trial observations, country observations and reports.
2. Mobilizing the community of States: through actions including advocacy within intergovernmental organizations, and by providing guidance and support for individual member groups in their own advocacy work.
3. Supporting local NGO’s capacity for action: with a legal cooperation programme aimed at capacity building and improving organizations credibility through training and dialogue with the authorities.
4. Raising awareness: through work including site research, eyewitness accounts, media work, open letters, mission reports and petitions.
“It is an honour and step forward for the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights to join the FIDH network,” president Abdulhadi Al Khawaja said.

the human rights situation and establishing a culture of human rights in Bahrain.”
