Allowing a runaway out of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for a job interview proved to be too high a price for officials when Virginia Cariaga (pictured) returned late evening shaken up and sexually assaulted.
Virgie was accompanied out by a Bahraini man named “Isa” with the shelter’s permission to meet her prospective German employer on Sunday afternoon. It was late in the evening around 9 pm when he returned her.
“I was eager to find a new employer who is willing to hire me. We believed his story and I went along with him that afternoon. He brought me into a flat and that is when I realised that the job was a hoax. He was grabbing and tugging me from behind as I struggled to break free,” said Virgie, shaking nervously as she narrated the incident.

The trousers she wore that day was immediately handed over to the police as evidence. She also underwent a thorough medical examination for a number of scratches and bruises.
A case of sexual assault has been filed against the Bahraini and is concurrently scheduled to appear in front of the Public Prosecutor anytime soon.
“We were led to believe that Isa intended Virgie to meet a prospective German employer. We entrusted her into his custody also because he was a personal friend of the Philippine Embassy and that he has helped so many others in need. We never expected him to do such a thing. I, Myself, am furious with the man! How dare he even get one of the girls here for his own personal agenda! The victim has filed a case against him for sexual assault and we have strong evidence against him to pursue the case,” said Welfare Officer, Atttorney Venus Bravo, fuming.
“This is an insult for the agency. A slap in the face to us by this man and we are not letting him go off so easily,” she added.
