Indian Gopal Krishnan Roopesh has lodged a complaint at the Indian embassy for unpaid wages. He has also alleged that his employer has been recruiting workers from India even though his company has been blacklisted.
“Whenever one of his Commercial Registration (CR) is blacklisted, my boss applies for a new CR,” Roopesh told the Tribune. “He has over four CR’s now, of these I think two are on the embassy’s blacklist.”
Roopesh said he was employed by the company as an electrical engineer four months ago. “After I completed the first month, the company manager, who is also an Indian, said that he would pay me my salary later,” Roopesh said.

“He told me that the company is facing some financial trouble but would soon have the money to pay my salary.” The engineer said the company said this to all its workers. “The company pays BD20 or BD30 and then tell the workers that they would be paid the full salary next month,” Roopesh said. “Every month it’s the same story.”
The Tribune was told that workers had earlier complained of delayed wages and were told that the company was blacklisted. Roopesh confirmed it.
“But the manager applies for a new CR and recruits unsuspecting workers from India on the new CR,” he said. “Then the new recruits are also treated in the same way.”
Roopesh said if any worker complained about delayed wages then the manager would threaten to report to the police that the worker had stolen money or tools from his place of work.
An embassy official said the complaints had been recorded.
A source told the Tribune that the manager would be meeting embassy officials today.
