UN High Commissoner for Human Rights calls on Bahrain to comply with human rights mechanisms

13 September 2016 – In his opening statement of the 33rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, expressed his concerns about the harassment and arrests of human rights defenders and political activists.

Addressing the Government of Bahrain, he said that “the authorities of Bahrain would be well advised to comply with the recommendations of the human rights mechanisms and UPR, and engage more productively with my Office, as well as with this Council’s Special Procedures.”
