Bahrain destination for Filipinos

BAHRAIN is now in the top 10 worldwide destinations favoured by Filipinos seeking jobs overseas, it was revealed yesterday.
Thirteenth last year, Bahrain is now at number 10 in the list compiled annually by the Philippines’ Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in Manila.
The updated 2006 Fast Stats list released by the POEA showed that the most number of Filipino workers, newly hired for various jobs overseas, went to the Middle East between the months of January and October.
Out of 263,887 that went abroad within those 10 months, 178,685 are now working in jobs in the Middle East region.

BAHRAIN is now in the top 10 worldwide destinations favoured by Filipinos seeking jobs overseas, it was revealed yesterday.
Thirteenth last year, Bahrain is now at number 10 in the list compiled annually by the Philippines’ Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in Manila.
The updated 2006 Fast Stats list released by the POEA showed that the most number of Filipino workers, newly hired for various jobs overseas, went to the Middle East between the months of January and October.
Out of 263,887 that went abroad within those 10 months, 178,685 are now working in jobs in the Middle East region.
The number in the region represents 67.71 per cent of the workforce that went abroad.
The report also revealed that 67,894 or 25.73pc went to other Asian countries, and 6,686 or 2.53pc to the Americas, with the remainder having headed to Europe, Africa, Oceania and Trust Territories.
Saudi Arabia remains the number one destination favoured by Filipinos. From January to October this year, 77,115 (29.22pc) Filipinos arrived in that country to work in new jobs.
The UAE came in second with 32,559 (12.34pc); Taiwan with 27,406 (10.39pc); Qatar with 23,170 (8.78pc); Kuwait with 22,864 (8.66pc); Hong Kong with 17,532 (6.64pc); South Korea with 9,695 (3.67pc); Lebanon with 7,719 (2.93pc); Israel with 6,434 (2.44pc); and Bahrain with 4,489 (1.7pc) Filipino workers.
The study revealed that 157,549 (59.7pc) Filipinos who left their country for jobs overseas are women.
A total of 126,473 (47.93pc) are service workers, which include housemaids.
Production and related workers, transport equipment operators and labourers come in next, numbering at 90,498 (34.29pc).
Professional, technical and related workers number 31,457 (11.92pc); while the rest are classified as sales, farming, administrative, fishing, forestry, clerical and related workers.
