Bahrain Tribune: Muharraq tops in poll violations

The Bahrain Society for Public Freedom and Support for Democracy has issued a report about the election violation.
The report found out that among all the governorates, Muharraq had the maximum violations, 23.53 per cent, followed by Capital governorate in the second place. The head of the team for monitoring the elections for the society, Nasser Burdestani (pictured) told the Tribune, “We monitored all the governorates and found out that there are election violations happening and nothing is being done. There were 18 cases of posters of the candidates being damaged by colours , 11 cases of posters being put at traffic signals and five cases where candidates are putting advertisements outside their constituencies.”

He further said, “We also noticed that some candidates had started their campaigns from 20th October which is before the official date of canvassing. According to our analysis of all the candidates contesting for both the parliament and municipal election, about 35 per cent has violated the canvassing laws. The total number of violation cases is 68 in the five governorates and the Southern governorate had the lowest violation of 10.29 per cent.”
Tribune had earlier reported some poster violations where candidates had put their posters on school walls and road signs. Earlier, the Bahrain Transparency Society prepared a list of 37 candidates who had violated election laws and were informed about their act.
