There seems to be more than what meets the eye in the case of Latheefa Beevi Maheen. Her sponsors have raised questions about the modus operandi of Al Fahad Services and Power.
The sponsor told the Tribune, “The consultancy is cheating many families in the Kingdom. We hired Latheefa and after one and half month she expressed her determination to go home. I took her to the recruitment office on Tuesday night and completed all the formalities. The next thing I know is that the agency had admitted her to the Salmaniya Medical Complex and that she was in a critical condition.”

He said, “Why was not a complaint lodged at the police station if Latheefa was assaulted as alleged. She was normal when I left her then how did her condition worsen overnight?”
The manager of the consultancy narrates a different story as he said, “It is a clear case of physical assault that the sponsor is denying. We have informed the Indian embassy officials and will discuss the matter on Sunday.”
The sponsor claims that he was threatened by the agency to pay for the air-ticket of Latheefa. “The maids are taught by the agency to stop working after one month and then demand tickets. There is a three-month stipulation where I can return the maid if her work is not satisfactory. Why will I pay for the travel expenses, as according to the contract she is eligible for tickets only after one year?
“I filed a case against the company at the Hoora police station on Thursday,” he said.
The employer also claims that there is a similar case against the firm at the General Directorate of Nationality, Passport and Residence. The manager denied all the allegations and accused the sponsor of covering the lid about the matter.
