AN investigation into the killing of a policeman in a Bahraini village has been completed and no further arrests are expected, the Interior Ministry said yesterday. Pakistani policeman Majid Asghar Ali Kareem Baksh, 24, was lynched by a mob who attacked his patrol vehicle with Molotov cocktails.
It is understood he was on plainclothes duty in Karzakan, off the Budaiya Highway, when the attack took place on April 9.
Two other policemen were also injured in the attack, but their identities and the extent of their injuries have been kept under wraps.
An Interior Ministry spokesman would not disclose how many suspects had been rounded up by police in connection with the policeman’s death yesterday.
However, he confirmed that no more arrests were expected in the case.
“We have passed on the results of our investigations to the Public Prosecution and the results should be known in a day or two,” he told the GDN.
“Based on our investigations and questioning of some of the suspects, we have also concluded arrests in the case.”
The spokesman did say that those arrested were from across Bahrain and not solely from the village where Majid died.
“It is now up to the courts,” he added.
Meanwhile, an Interior Ministry official dismissed as untrue claims that Majid’s head had been smashed with a concrete block during the attack.
However, the official declined to give full details of the incident.
Activists have said that 26 men are currently in police custody in connection with the death of the policeman, as well as an arson attack at a farm belonging to the brother of Cabinet Affairs Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatala Al Khalifa, Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Ateyatala, in the same area.
The attackers set ablaze the majlis, three vehicles, a horse cart and a stable after breaking through the main gate.
