MANAMA: Police are sweeping Bahrain for Molotov cocktail “factories”, following the death of a policeman in a firebomb attack. Doctors are also being urged to report to police any patients with suspicious burns, which may have come from hurling or making Molotovs, the favoured weapon for rioters.
Police believe teenagers are making the firebombs in Tashan, Sehla, Sanabis, Jidhafs, Khamis and other areas, say well-placed sources.
They suspect that a Bahraini teenager from Sehla, treated for burns at Salmaniya Medical Complex on Saturday, may have been hurling or making Molotovs.
The youth, who told doctors he was injured in a kitchen fire at home, was kept in overnight and discharged on Sunday morning.
He has not been arrested, but police are investigating, a ministry official, who asked not to be named, confirmed yesterday.
“Police have been to the area and gathered samples and forensic tests are being carried out, but it is still too early to say what caused his injuries.”
Meanwhile, parliament will discuss a new law banning the production and usage of Molotovs today.
Pakistani policeman Majid Asghar Ali Kareem Baksh, 24, was killed when masked men hurled Molotov cocktails at a patrol vehicle in Karzakan last Wednesday night. Two other policemen were injured. mandeep@gdn. com.bh
