Notice served on postal workers’ vice-president

Another Postal Workers Union leader is being suspended from this Saturday.
“The postal department has served a 10-day suspension notice on vice-president Najeeha Abdul Ghaffar,” union chief, Jamal Ateeq Juma told the Tribune yesterday.
“The notice says she will suspended from Saturday and will not receive salary during the ten-day suspension,” JUma said.

Another Postal Workers Union leader is being suspended from this Saturday.
“The postal department has served a 10-day suspension notice on vice-president Najeeha Abdul Ghaffar,” union chief, Jamal Ateeq Juma told the Tribune yesterday.
“The notice says she will suspended from Saturday and will not receive salary during the ten-day suspension,” JUma said.
A copy of the notice secured by the Tribune says Najeeha had divulged information related to the department to the Press on three occasions.
In December, Juma was suspended for union activities and went on a five-day hunger strike in protest.
“A member of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Union discussed Najeeha’s case which was published in the Press. The department took it seriously and took steps against her. This is unfair,” Juma claimed, adding that he had filed a lawsuit against the Postal Directorate.
Najeeha confirmed her ten-day suspension from Saturday.
She told the Tribune that she did not want to comment as she had filed a case against the directorate and the Civil Services Bureau and a hearing was slated for February 11.
The union has approached the federation.
Juma said they would be meeting with members of the Shura Council, the Supreme Council for Women and the Women’s Union.
Head of the Women’s Union, Suad Mubarak, told the Tribune, “If there is a serious issue, then what is wrong in going to the Press?
“Najeeha was vocal about favouritism in the department with regard to increments and other issues. They are trying to put the blame on her for their shortcomings,” she said.
The National Democratic Action Society described the suspension notice as “unconstitutional”.
Head of union activities at the society, Yousif Al Khaja, called on the government to intervene and reinstate all unionists sacked because of their union activities.
In December, the International Trade Union Confederation petitioned to Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa for the reinstatement of all unionists. The confederation and the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions, have highlighted the cases of Juma and Najeeha.
