Bahrain Centre for Human Rights (BCHR) proudly participated in the 30th Anniversary of the Martin Ennals Award in Geneva, an event that celebrates the courage and dedication of human rights defenders worldwide. This milestone underscores the vital role of advocacy in the fight for justice, equality, and human dignity.
BCHR’s relationship with the Martin Ennals Award is deeply significant. The organization was honored with this prestigious recognition in 2012, a moment that elevated its visibility in the international community and opened doors to collaboration with other prominent human rights organizations. This recognition was essential in strengthening BCHR’s work and highlighting the human rights challenges in Bahrain. Furthermore, BCHR’s founder, Abdulhadi Alkhawaja, who is in jail since 2011 was named a Laureate in 2022, honoring his unwavering dedication to human rights despite massive personal sacrifices.
Nedal AlSalman, BCHR’s Director, reflected on the importance of the award:
“The Martin Ennals Award is more than just recognition; it is a inspiration of hope for human rights defenders worldwide. It amplifies their voices, validates their sacrifices, and inspires them to continue their struggles for justice. For Laureates and winners, it also highlights the significance of their work and opens doors to greater support and solidarity.”
BCHR’s participation in this historic event reaffirms its steadfast commitment to advocating for human rights and the global acknowledgment of the challenges faced by defenders in Bahrain and beyond.
