MANAMA — The Bahrain Human Rights Society (BHRS) is representing the country in collecting signatures from GCC citizens for a Gulf Petition to be handed over to GCC leaders during their gathering next month for the Gulf Summit in Doha.
The petition calls for active decisions by the GCC Cooperation Council that could positively touch the daily lives of Gulf citizens and is expected to be submitted at the end of this month.
Deputy General Secretary of the society Dr Abdullah Alderazi told Khaleej Times yesterday that a committee was formed with members from representatives of Gulf NGOs to follow up the process of collecting signatures. “Although we just started but we have managed to collect sufficient number of signatures in Bahrain and we will continue to gather more.”
After signing copies of the petition that will be handed over to the General Secretariat of the GCC, the public could fax or email them to the society.
“We are aiming at raising our voice and be part of the development in the region by highlighting our current and future needs,” he said.
