Today, the Bahrain Center for Human Rights issued a special report entitled “Bahrain Prisons: Is There a Solution?”, which is a study on the conditions of prisons in Bahrain from 2011 to 2020, and it includes a commentary on the violated rights of prisoners, the most dangerous of which is the denial of treatment.
It also reviews examples of health neglect in Bahrain’s prisons. The report includes 18 pages with the following sections: Introduction, the conditions of prisoners in Bahrain, the report of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) on the Cases of Prisoners, the nature of medical care available in Bahraini prisons, clear cases of ill-treatment of patients and prevention of treatment, medical services provided for in the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, the local and international legal framework, human and legal duty, and it concludes with the recommendations.
Nedal Al-Salman, who is the Acting Head of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, stated: “The release of prisoners is a human duty under these difficult circumstances in the world. The Kingdom of Bahrain should follow the example of other countries that released thousands of prisoners under the pandemic of the COVID-19.”
