A MAN who had raped a 68-year-old Bahraini woman at her home, robbed her and left her to die, will be sentenced on October 10.

The 27-year-old Bahraini, who has admitted rape and theft, held the woman at knifepoint and beat her, after forcing his way into her home in Riffa, the High Criminal Court heard at an earlier hearing.

He told police that he banged her head against a wall when she tried to resist, then stole her money and fled, leaving the door open.

“The woman resisted when I tried to remove her clothes so I pushed her hard and her head hit the wall of her bedroom. She became weak and I raped her,” he said.

A passer-by called the police when she heard the screams coming from the woman’s house during the attack, on February 2.

The victim was still alive when the first police officer arrived at the scene.

“When I reached her house, I went straight inside and saw the old woman lying on the bed with her left hand hanging to the floor,” the officer said in his report earlier.

“Her face was swollen and injured from the beating she had received.

“There was blood on the bedroom walls, but she was alive at that time, although weak and exhausted.”

The dying woman was, however, able to tell the officer what happened even though she continued vomiting.

A medical report, dated May 13, indicated she died as a result of her injuries.

The defendant appeared in court following the summer break and Judge Shaikh Mohammed bin Ali Al Khalifa adjourned the case until October 10 for sentencing.
