Bahrain: October arrests and protests

In October, the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) documented 96 arrests in Bahrain, including 10 minors, with only a few later released. These arrests followed the summoning of 82 citizens for interrogation, while others were detained in various locations: 8 on the street, 1 at a checkpoint, 1 on King Fahd Causeway, 2 at Bahrain International Airport, and 2 in house raids, one of which targeted a 15-year-old boy.

BCHR also monitored the organization of 52 protests across multiple areas in Bahrain. At least two demonstrations, in Diraz and Abu Saiba, were suppressed by authorities. Most of these protests were organized in solidarity with prisoners of conscience, with calls for prison reform and the release of detainees. Additionally, many of the demonstrations expressed opposition to normalization with Israel, calling for a complete severance of ties, and denounced recent attacks on Palestinians and Lebanese communities.

In light of these events, BCHR renews its call for Bahraini authorities to release all prisoners of conscience, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with medical needs. Numerous prominent opposition figures, including Sheikh Ali Salman, Abdul Jalil Al-Singace, Abdul Hadi Al-Khawaja, and Ali Mushaima, remain imprisoned despite their advanced age and health challenges.

BCHR urges the Bahraini authorities to lift restrictions on the rights to freedom of opinion, expression, and peaceful assembly, and to respect the people’s calls for justice and solidarity with affected communities.
