July to September 2024: Bahrain Center for Human Rights Documents 153 Arrests, Including 21 Children

Over the past three months, the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) documented 153 arrests, including 21 children under the age of 18, most of whom were later released. Among those detained, 55 citizens were summoned for investigation before being arrested. Additionally, five individuals were detained at the King Fahd Causeway, four at Bahrain Airport, and one was deported from Kuwait. The remaining arrests occurred during the suppression of peaceful marches in various regions across Bahrain.

BCHR also recorded 137 protest marches in 14 areas, including the capital, Manama. At least four protests were forcibly suppressed in Diraz, Al-Sahla, and Karzakan, while a heavy security presence in several areas prevented other demonstrations from taking place.

According to BCHR statistics, most protests were held in solidarity with prisoners of conscience, demanding the release of remaining political prisoners. There were also renewed calls rejecting normalization with Israel and urging a complete severance of relations with the Zionist entity. Protesters further condemned Israeli attacks on Palestinians and, more recently, on the Lebanese people.

In light of these events, the Bahrain Center for Human Rights calls on the authorities to:

  • Release all detainees, particularly those arrested for expressing their opinions.
  • Remove all restrictions on the rights to freedom of opinion, expression, and peaceful assembly.
